J Boys challenge

Injured while the training camp for the All Japan jr. Youth team is starting (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 85, page 10), everyone will still agree that he's the best choice for a midfielder who can build the game (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 85, page 29), and he'll be touched to see that everyone saved him the n°10 despite not being able to take part in the training camp (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 85, pages 83 to 85).

He'll be surprised to hear that he didn't take part in the training camp because Mikami and Katagiri wanted him in perfect condition for the International Jr. youth tournament in France (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 85, pages 106-107). However, he'll want to go before the beginning of the tournament, during the All Japan jr. Youth campaign in Europe (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 86, pages 16-17).
Arriving during the match of All Japan jr. Youth against Hamburg Jr. Youth, after meeting Gino Hernandez by chance (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 87, page 36), he'll be impressed by Schneider's abilities (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 87, page 55), he'll be eager to play with his teammates, but Hyuga and Matsuyama will object, Hyuga because he wants to prove that the team is strong even without him, and Matsuyama because it would be unfair to those who were cast aside after the training camp, in which he didn't participate. He'll thus agree to stay on the bench, only cheering his partners (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 87, pages 59 to 66). He'll then tell Misugi that Hyuga and Matsuyama were right, and that he acted selfishly (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 87, page 69). However, he will still be very frustrated not being able to play (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 88, page 12). He'll even be the most pissed off when Bremen Jr. youth will preserve their best players in the second half of the match against All Japan jr. Youth so they can be in their best condition in the next match (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 88, pages 91-92). Afterwards Italy Jr. youth will cancel the friendly match against All Japan Jr. youth, to preserve their players and because they do not consider it worth it (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 89, page 9): it'll be too much for Tsubasa, who will take on the whole team of Italy Jr. youth, getting past all the field players and scoring against their keeper Gino Hernandez (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 89, pages 10 to 22). Thanks to that feat, Ishizaki will thus beg everyone to let him play, and Matsuyama as well as Hyuga will agree (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 89, pages 24 to 26). Finally playing the following friendly matches, with him, All Japan jr. Youth will have a steady central line along with Hyuga, Matsuyama and Wakashimazu, and win against Bayern Jr. Youth (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 89, pages 76-77), Amsterdam Jr. and Belgium Jr. Youth (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 89, page 82).

While training late at night himself, he'll notice Matsuyama and Hyuga secretely train as well (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 88, pages 59 to 64). He'll notably try to improve his physical strength after his recent injuries (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 89, page 54). When visiting Paris, he'll meet Misaki by chance, and they will both be extremely happy to see each other again (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 89, pages 89 to 96). And during their first training together, everyone will be able to see that their golden combi is still working (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 90, pages 5 to 11).
He'll be the only one to whom Wakabayashi will reveal that he kept on criticizing All Japan jr. Youth so they could get stronger, and that he wouldn't play, knowing full well that it would hurt the teamwork (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 90, pages 17 to 19).

After the match against Hamburg Jr. Youth, the team will be depressed, but he'll agree with Matsuyama that they can't stay like this and must start afresh from zero, and his cheerfulness will make the others smile (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 88, pages 52-53). Matsuyama, gradually noticing that Tsubasa is improving the team's mood, will ask Mikami to make him the captain (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 90, page 41), which he'll do just before their first match (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 90, pages 59-60).

He'll make a huge impression during the first match of the International Jr. youth tournament, against Italy Jr. youth (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 93, pages 2-3), making Diaz eager to play against him (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 93, pages 18-19). The day of the match, understanding spanish a bit thanks to his portuguese lessons, Diaz will tell him that he knows Roberto and that he is in the stadium (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 94, pages 2 to 5). He'll be troubled by Roberto's presence (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 94, page 22), but will realize that he's playing soccer for himself and for the team, not for Roberto, and will be determined to chase the goals they took while he was confused (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 94, pages 43 to 45). Despite eventually winning the match and setting the record of 5 assists in a match, he won't be satisfied, since as an offensive midfielder, his duty is to score goals as well, and didn't manage to score any (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 95, pages 46-47). Afterwards, he'll ask Misaki to search for Roberto's whereabouts, and learn that he's the coach of Sao Paulo's junior team and that he's on a campaign in France, then wonder if he should meet him (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 95, pages 52 to 55). But he'll eventually decide to prioritize All Japan jr. Youth since he is the captain (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 96, page 10).
He'll stand up and defend Soda against the decision of the referee of giving him two yellow cards during the game against France Jr. youth and making him leave, earning a yellow card himself, but Soda will still leave, knowing that they would stand a chance if Tsubasa had to leave too (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 99, pages 30 to 39). He'll also tell all the players, angered against the referee for refusing 3 goals, to use their anger and frustration in their plays (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 99, pages 78 to 80). Despite losing confrontations against Pierre (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 99, pages 141-142), he'll keep on confronting him until he can get past him and score an equalizer (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 100, pages 145 to 154). Then he'll score the last attempt in the PK shootout (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 102, pages 23 to 28).
During the finals against West Germany Jr. youth, just like Nitta and Hyuga, he'll realize that Muller has no gap (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 103, pages 72-73), despite this, he won't give up (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 105, page 8). During half time, he'll receive a message from Katagiri (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 106, pages 18-19), making him understand that Roberto didn't return to Brazil and is watching the match (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 106, pages 40-41), he will score the victorious goal at the very end of the match (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 108, pages 62 to 75).
He'll be the MVP of the international Jr. youth tournament (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 108, pages 86-87), praised as the pillar of the team (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 108, page 92). But during his victory speech, will reveal that he doesn't think that they are n°1 since Brazil didn't take part in the tournament, and that winning the World cup will be a dream that they'll chase forever even if they are never achieving it (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 108, pages 102 to 107).

After the International Jr. youth tournament, he'll train the 1st and 2nd year of the Nankatsu junior high school (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 109, pages 2 to 4). Kumi will confess to him, but he won't have to say much to reject her as she already understood everything, and will instead encourage him to confess to Sanae (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 109, pages 9 to 14). And so when Sanae will tell him that she rejected Kanda, and half-admitted that she's in love with Tsubasa, he'll want to confess but Carlos will interrupt him (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 109, pages 26 to 29). Kanda will ask him to fight for Sanae, guessing that he wouldn't quit the soccer club, and wouldn't get them in trouble by taking part to a fight, proving to Sanae that soccer is more important to him than her, however, it won't go as Kanda planned since Tsubasa will leave a letter of resignation before coming to the fight, and although Kanda will manage to beat him up at first, Kanda will be downed by one of his kick (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 109, pages 32 to 48). He will then confess to Sanae (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 109, pages 53 to 56). Katagiri will make arrangements for him to train with the Hamana Industry club (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 110, pages 14-15). When Katagiri will tell him that he tried to convince the soccer association to select Tsubasa in the national team, he will be surprised and answer that it's impossible and that he doesn't have the level, but Katagiri will get angry, thinking that Tsubasa has the abilities, and that he wants him to become the best player in the world, he wants to realize his dreams through Tsubasa, thinks that Roberto is the same, and that in fact, Tsubasa's dream is the dream of every soccer fan in the country (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 111, pages 15 to 19). He'll thus challenge the national team, but fail in front of their coach Okudera Yasuhiko, still the later will allow him to stay, judging him to be good enough to be in the national team (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 112, pages 10 to 22). During a friendly match between the Japanese national team and Gremio, he'll start on the bench, but after Gremio scores 3 goals, the stands will call out for him, and he'll get in, and thanks to his activity, the match will end in a draw (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 113, pages 6 to 36). He will then leave for Brazil without warning except Sanae whom he'll call. After a walk throughout the city of Nankatsu, he'll meet Sanae who came to wish him a to make his dream come true. After crying a bit and take ap lan, we'll see him on a soccer field in Brazil (Captain Tsubasa arc, chapter 114, pages 1 to 30).
