Because of his young "emperor" nickname, and the fact that the manga says he'd be just as strong as a defender, people often think Beckenbauer "Der Kaiser" (the emperor) is one of the inspiration for the character, but while this nickname might come from here, his true inspiration is probably Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, considering he played the '82 World cup which influenced Takahashi a lot for the J Boys challenge arc.
