This isn't sure at all, but his name might come from Nakanishi Futoshi. Takahashi is also a baseball fan, their names are basically the same if you remove the "ichi" (一) from Taichi, Nakanishi Futoshi was managing the Hanshin Tigers at around that time (who were also known as the Osaka Tigers before), and was apparently quite heavy during his playing career (around 93 kilos according to the japanese wikipedia).
