Knowing Santana's ordeals, he'll tell Tsubasa that he just can't win (World youth arc, chapter 8, pages 40-41). After tying, Santana will still be emotionless, something that won't surprise him, knowing that Santana became a soccer cyborg. However Tsubasa will want to show Santana that soccer is enjoyable, and that thought will make Santana laugh, which will surprise Leo, used to see him emotionless (World youth arc, chapter 8, pages 64 to 68). With this, and seeing Tsubasa keeping on fighting, he'll eventually believe that Tsubasa may be the man who can melt Santana's frozen heart (World youth arc, chapter 9, pages 1 to 3).After losing, Santana will be shocked, and he will tell him that he used Bara's soccer all along, while he should use his own soccer, the one he used before, with enjoyment and when he passed the ball to teammates, making him realize that the ball wasn't Santana's only friend (World youth arc, chapter 9, pages 26 to 35).
