World youth
He was the coach of a famous senior high school football club, Uranishi, but was eventually dismissed, since the team never got past the prefecture championship because of his harsh training. He was also the coach of the club of Nakajima Industries but smashed the players who fell to the second division of the Japan Soccer League and was fired and afterwards, no one wanted to hire him (World youth arc, chapter 17, pages 4-5).
Traveling to various countries to observe their soccer, he met Aoi by chance in Italy, almost not believing that he was playing for Inter primavera, but still noticing his well-built legs, he'll see him play for real (World youth arc, chapter 5, pages 2 to 13). He'll also meet Hino when observing Uruguay youth team, as Hino was angry not to be selected, he will propose Hino to join the Japanese youth team instead, and Hino will refuse at first, until he's hearing Oozora Tsubasa's name (World youth arc, chapter 15, pages 28 to 34). He'll then see Tsubasa's victory against Flamengo (World youth arc, chapter 9, page 24). And Hino, after seeing Oozora Tsubasa's match against Flamengo, will agree to go to Japan (World youth arc, chapter 15, page 35).
He'll then appear at the end of the first training camp of All Japan youth, provoking them by calling them "worthless All Japan", and reveal himself as the coach of 7 players serving as their opponents for friendly matches, the Real Japan seven, the true members of All Japan youth, which will surprise and confuse the members of All Japan youth, most of them will recognize Hino and Yumikura from the day they challenged the defenders, as well as Urabe (World youth arc, chapter 14, pages 4 to 10). He'll make them play against 3 successive groups of All Japan, with the eviction of 7 members at stake (World youth arc, chapter 14, page 49), and each group will lose to his Real Japan seven, proving to Hyuga and Misaki that they were naive to not join the J-League and focus on the national team (World youth arc, chapter 15, pages 56-57), as for Mikami, he'll leave the team to him, he'll refuse at first, feeling that he'd smash All Japan youth with his ways of training, and Mikami will answer that if they can't endure his training, they wouldn't be able to aim to be best in the world (World youth arc, chapter 15, pages 61 to 65). He'll thus announce to the team that he's the new coach (World youth arc, chapter 15, page 74), and say that the seven evicted members are Hyuga, because he can't use postplay, Misaki, because he can't play without Tsubasa, the Tachibanas, because they can't play without each other, Jito, because he's fat, Nitta, because he's a small forward and can't use both legs to compensate, and Soda, because he just have his razor shot. He'll also say that the rest is worse but that he'll take care of them, while the others will take care of themselves and have another chance for the second round of the asian preliminaries, all of this for the sake of building the best team around Tsubasa. He'll make the team endure an even more severe training that what he did with the Real Japan seven, but realizing that not all of them will make it and that the team will be exhausted, he'll call Tsubasa and Aoi in the team (World youth arc, chapter 16, pages 14 to 25). One week before the first round of the asian preliminaries, Katagiri will ask him to call back the members he excluded, since Thailand youth being in the same
group as Japan was unforeseen and they could prevent Japan from qualifying, but he will refuse, despite being worried that he has no news from Aoi. He'll present himself to Tsubasa as the coach, he'll also tell Tsubasa that he'll be the only one able to play, the other members unable to even get up. However, he'll be surprised that everyone will get up once Tsubasa is asking them to, their bodies crushed but their will still intact, hardly believing that no one has quit despite his hellish training (World youth arc, chapter 19, pages 10 to 19).
During the 1st round of the Asian preliminaries, Japan will win against Chinese Taipei and Guam, but because of their lower goal average, they'll have to win against Thailand no matter what (World youth arc, chapter 20, page 35). He'll even admit to the players that he didn't expect Thailand to be in their group, but will still give them a tactic, to defend and counterattack (World youth arc, chapter 21, pages 4-5), but will also regret that Aoi didn't return (World youth arc, chapter 21, page 10). However the match will take a turn for the worse, with 2 injured players, including Tsubasa unconscious with a cerebral concussion, and being led 4 to 1, he'll consider it to be his fault for neglecting the first round of the asian preliminaries, however Mikami will appear and tell him not to give up (World youth arc, chapter 23, pages 42 to 46), and to use Wakabayashi who also came for this match (World youth arc, chapter 23, pages 60-61). This won't be enough to turn the tide of the match however (World youth arc, chapter 24, pages 24-25), but Aoi will aventually come to, and he'll make Aoi get in to play immediately even though there's only loss time left in the first half. He'll ask Aoi to score one goal in the first half, which he'll do (World youth arc, chapter 25, pages 4 to 23). He'll let Tsubasa decide on how to best use Aoi in the second half (World youth arc, chapter 25, pages 31-32) and Japan youth will eventually win thanks to this (World youth arc, chapter 26, pages 56 to 61).
During the training camp for the 2nd round of the asian qualifiers, the evicted members will have their revenge match against his Real Japan seven, surprised to see that they have progressed more than he imagined, he'll end the match before the 2nd half, the result of the match being obvious, and having noticed that Hyuga's raiju shot is straining his legs a lot. He'll then reveal that the true purpose of the Real Japan seven was to be a sparring partner for Japan and make them progress, but that including them into the team was out of the question, Hino being the only exception, the latter having the double nationality, Japanese and Uruguayan, but Hino will prefer to join uruguay. Having noticed Ide's good observations, he'll let him join. With the return of the evicted members stronger than ever, for him not getting past the 2nd round of the qualifiers would mean that he's a terrible coach. After traveling with the team to Jakarta in Indonesia where the 2nd round ofthe asian qualifiers will be held, he'll reveal to journalists Nozaki and Tajima that for the 2nd round of the qualifiers, the "true" All Japan youth will set sail (World youth arc, chapter 29, pages 12 to 109). And indeed, with a team largely different than in the 1st round, opponents like China youth or Saudi Arabia youth will be surprised to see this (World youth arc, chapter 30, pages 6-7). He'll also instruct Hyuga to keep his raiju shot a secret until the world youth, to keep it a secret from the other teams (World youth arc, chapter 30, page 14). Ide will be worried about Saudi Arabia youth's peculiar tactic, the Antlion larva's pit defense staying up all night to think about a countermeasure without success, but he will reassure Ide, saying that in these kind of circumstances, you have to believe in your own soccer (World youth arc, chapter 32, page 1). He'll notice once (World youth arc, chapter 32, page 26), then twice, that Hyuga wants to use his raiju shot against Saudi Arabia youth (World youth arc, chapter 32, page 60). So, with Saudi Arabia youth setting the pace, Wakabayashi's injured wrists and the overall mood of the team, he'll allow Hyuga to use his raiju shot (World youth arc, chapter 32, page 84). He'll also take appropriate decisions, proving that the famous coach of Saudi Arabia youth, Perez, is no better than him (World youth arc, chapter 33, page 27). He won't prevent the players of Japan youth from training hard in the middle ofthe Asia youth championship so they can match Tsubasa's real pace, despite it being risky for their condition, since it's for the sake of winning the World youth, which is a step further than the Asian youth championship (World youth arc, chapter 39, pages 20-21). They'll qualify to the World youth after winning against Iraq youth (World youth arc, chapter 42, pages 8 to 11).
Going back to Japan, he'll ask Aoi to observe the training matches of AC Milan, since he'll want to use one of their specialty, the zone press (World youth arc, chapter 44, pages 2 to 5). After learning that the World youth may be cancelled because of a civil war in the host country, Burunga, he'll be one of the first to back up Katagiri, who proposed to host the World youth in Japan instead (World youth arc, chapter 45, pages 4-5). Carrying out the training camp as planned, he'll state once again that they are going to use the zone press, revealing to everyone that the World youth will be held in Japan, but also developping his own variation of the zone press, the japanese zone press, the players will understand that this was his plan from the start, as he stated from the beginning that he would build the best team around Tsubasa (World youth arc, chapter 45, pages 4 to 17). He'll praise everyone at the end of the training camp, and everyone will jokingly be surprised, not used to hearing praises from him (World youth arc, chapter 49, pages 7-8).
He'll follow Ide's suggestion to use the Tachibana's aerial soccer against Mexico youth's lucha libre's techniques (World youth arc, chapter 52, page 9). But in half-time, despite the protest of the players, he'll instruct them to keep on focusing on defense, and won't tell his motive behind that decision (World youth arc, chapter 52, pages 85-86). However, with Mexico youth eventually scoring, he'll change his strategy for an ultra-offensive formation with 3 forwards (World youth arc, chapter 52, pages 117-118).
During the 1st round of the Asian preliminaries, Japan will win against Chinese Taipei and Guam, but because of their lower goal average, they'll have to win against Thailand no matter what (World youth arc, chapter 20, page 35).
