Just like the main character Tsubasa, his name is a pun lost in translation, meaning "Green traffic light".

His inspiration might be Kitazawa Tsuyoshi, as they are sharing the same nickname "Midfield's dynamo" (on the japanese Wikipedia). Strangely, that player also made his international debut against Thaïland (in a friendly match, though) and was also on the bench of the national team when the Agony of Doha happened (World Youth's beginning, just before Aoi's introduction).
